2021 GMH Merlot

South Australia

Story: Merlot, while being relatively young in Australia has found a very comfortable home here. Indeed, it is nipping at the heels of Shiraz as Australia's No. 1 favourite red variety.

Vintage: 2021 will be one for the record books in more than one way but as far as vineyards across South Australia are concerned it was near perfect. Higher than average rainfall over winter allowed vines to produce good canopy and the cool – dry summer gave us beautiful even ripening conditions. This slow ripening allows great flavour development and retention of natural acidity.

Nose: The GMH Merlot 2021 delights with aromas of blackberry, plum, and a hint of mint, promising a fruit-forward experience.

Palate: On the palate, it reveals vibrant fruit flavours intertwined with oak characters, showcasing a vibrant mouthfeel that reflects the excellent fruit ripening and subtle oak usage in the winemaking process.

Food Pairings: This GMH Merlot 2021 pairs beautifully with a grilled steak topped with a blackberry and mint sauce.  The wine's dark fruit flavours and gentle oak complement the rich, savory flavours of the steak, creating a delightful dining experience.
