2020 By Geoff Hardy Leaf Label Shiraz
Story: A result of 5 generations of the Hardy family living and working in the Southern Vales of South Australia. McLaren Vale is the spiritual home of the Hardy’s winemaking heritage. This wine pays homage to the family’s connection to the place where it all began.
Vintage: The 2020 growing season started with mild weather and below average rainfall. Some late spring rain provided a bit of relief from the dry conditions. A heatwave in January was luckily too early in the ripening cycle to cause any damage to the fruit. This was followed by a very mild and dry finish to the vintage, allowing good hang time and flavour development to the smaller than average crop.
Nose: The nose offers rich and complex aromas of black cherries, plums, and black pepper with notes of liquorice vanilla and dark chocolate.
Palate: Plush, voluptuous, velvety, and perfectly balanced. Dark fruits, liquorice, textural tannins, and a long, persistent finish.
Pairing: Try this wine with char-grilled dry aged rib eye served on a parsnip puree with roasted heirloom beetroots.
Oak maturation: 30% new French oak for 30 months.
Cellaring: Drink now or to 2030
